A few questions about NY and time management?

VCC asked:

I’m going to NY with my boyfriend for a week (5 whole days, 2 half days) and we have a list of things we would like to do but have no idea how many of them we can actually see because we don’t know how long roughly each place takes. Since we don’t have long there we’re planning our time now (we’re cr*p decision makers on the spot lol).

Things we’re thinking of were during the day:
Rockfeller center, Hayden planetarium, Statue of liberty, world trade center site, central park (zoo, castle etc), Museum of natural history, fifth avenue (and somewhere else to shop, don’t know where), Library, Coney island, St Patrick’s Cathedral.

Could we do like the cathedral, library in one day? Is it possible to fit that stuff in in the time we have?

We we’re planning to do the empire state building at night, a Broadway show and times square… does times square have anything like shops that aren’t open in the evening that we’ll miss if we just go there at night?

Any advise in general???

Going there with my boyfriend for 6 nights in 13 days.

how long will it take to do madame tussards wax museum?

Is the Hayden planetarium/Rose center for earth and space part of the museum of natural history?? Where about in NY is it if it’s not? If it is, because the entry fee for the museum of natural history is voluntary, does that mean you don’t HAVE to pay for the Rose center also?? What about the space show?

Do you recommend visiting the Rockfeller center? Because we’ll miss the ice rink and christmas tree, is it worth visiting? I don’t really know what’s there apart from the Top of the Rock observation tower. Is it worth it if we want to do the empire state building (at night)? Any advise about queing etc for the empire state building?

About broadway, we’re hoping to get tickets from a TCKTs booth. We’re not fussed, just wanna see a show. Hopefuly in the evening, but are shows on at specific times or anything and where about are they, by Times square?
We’re not massive art fans but the museums are meant to be great. Is it worth visiting one like MoMa? If so how long does it take roughly?

Shopping – where is a good place to shop? We want lots of bargains too! We wanna shop :D

I heard of a boat tour that goes round the whole of Manhattan, any idea what it’s called or where to get it?

What’s the best way to visit the Statue of Liberty? I’ve heard of Statin ferry (I think that’s what it’s called, but it’s free). How long does it take to see that?

Is Coney Island worth visiting?

Any other advise in general? We’re also visiting Times Square (obviously) at night and central park for the day.

my friend and i, who is also 15, have been planning on taking a trip to new york via train (we live in New Jersey). while there we will visit the hayden planetarium and the museum of natural history.

however, we would prefer to go without parents. Is it a good idea for two 15 year old girls to go to new york alone by train, or should i get like a 20 year old to attend? should i even think about asking my parents? (they are pretty open and we are very mature)

also, excluding museum costs, how much pocket money should i bring to explore new york?
of course i am going to ask my parents! i am just seeing if this is a good idea before i ask them

I will be visiting NYC in a couple of weeks and I noticed that some of the museums offer discount tickets to students with an ID. I am from Texas. Would I be able to use my college ID or does it have to be a NY college/university?
Any suggestions about great museums? I already plan to visit the AMNH/Hayden Planetarium.

I read online that it was in Hayden Planetarium … but then I’m also finding references to an “old” planetarium that has been closed. So I’m wondering if that particular exhibit/room is history. I’ve been to current HP website and could not find my answer.
